Terms and ConditionsHelpful Tip

Packing the maximum number of people into a motorhome may spoil your dream vacation. We always recommend choosing a motorhome that sleeps more people than you are traveling with!

Cruise AmericaMileage Packages
(for rentals starting between: 01.11.2025 and 31.03.2026)
When renting a motorhome, it is important to know that the mileage driven is not necessarily part of the rental fee. If your rental does not include any mileage or you exceed the number of miles included in your package, the rental company will charge a per mile fee at drop off. Therefore we recommend that you roughly calculate the amount of miles you will need for your trip and choose your package accordingly. Below you will see the outline of the mileage inclusions in each feature package level and the cost of upgrading those inclusions within the feature package. Pre-Booking mileage packages is often cheaper than paying for miles at drop off.
Super-Saver

Optional Mileage Upgrade:
You can choose to purchase mileage allowances at the following rates:
- Mileage Packages
100 Additional Miles for EUR 32,- - Unlimited Miles

Super-Inclusive-PLUS

Attention:
If you do not book a mileage package or go over the prepaid number of miles, the rental company will bill you at a rate of (currently) $0.35 per mile + tax. Please also note that you will not be reimbursed for any unused, prepaid mileage.
Rental period: 01.04.2025 to 31.03.2026
Cruise America uses a flexible rate system that dynamically adjusts the rental price of your motorhome. The nightly rate may vary based on travel dates, location, and demand.
Here’s how the system works:
- Seasonal Pricing: Rates are higher during peak travel times (such as summer or holidays) and lower during off-peak seasons.
- Demand: Prices may increase when demand is high at your pickup location. Conversely, lower demand could mean a better price for you.
- Pickup Location: Prices vary depending on the pickup and drop-off locations. Popular cities or regions typically have higher rates than less frequented areas.
Flexible rates are updated weekly, ensuring you always pay a fair and competitive price. To secure the best deal, book early or choose a location with lower demand.
Please note that flexible rates cover only the daily rental costs. Mileage packages, insurance, and additional extras are charged separately.
Mandatory Additional Costs (Not Included in the Rental Price)
In addition to the base rental price, mandatory fees apply to motorhome rentals. These fees vary based on the rental duration and location. They must be paid on-site in USD and are not included in the base rental price.
General Fees (Applicable at All Locations)
- Preparation Fee: A flat fee of $50 per rental is charged for vehicle preparation and cleaning.
- Environmental Fee: A flat fee of $9.95 per rental covers the eco-friendly disposal of materials such as oil, filters, tires, and batteries.
- Mileage or Distance Costs: The base rental price does not include mileage. You must book mileage packages separately. More details can be found under the section: Mileage Rules.
Location-Specific Fees
- Colorado Road Safety Fee (Denver – DEN): A daily fee of $5.23 applies to rentals from Denver. This fee is charged for up to 30 days and supports traffic safety projects in Colorado.
- New Mexico LV Surcharge (Albuquerque – ABQ): A daily fee of $2 applies to rentals from Albuquerque. This fee does not apply to C30 vehicles and is payable on-site.
- Pennsylvania VR Tax (Pittsburgh – PIT): A daily fee of $4 applies to rentals from Pittsburgh, charged for the first 29 days of the rental.
- Philadelphia Surcharge (Philadelphia – PHL): A daily fee of $2 applies to rentals from Philadelphia, charged for the first 29 days of the rental.
- New Jersey Security Fee (Newark – EWR): A daily security fee of $5 applies to rentals from Newark. This fee is capped at 30 days.
These fees are mandatory and vary by location. They are not included in the base rental price and must be paid in USD at the time of vehicle pickup. Changes mandated by local authorities may occur without prior notice.
- Generator Usage: Generator usage can be prepaid for unlimited use or charged hourly at the time of return. More details can be found in the section on generator usage.
- Propane Gas: Propane is charged based on consumption at the time of return and cannot be prepaid. Additional information can be found in the section on propane usage.
- Vehicle Kits: These kits, which include items such as cookware and utensils, can be added to your booking in advance. Details can be found in the section on vehicle kits.
- Personal Kits: These kits, which include bedding, towels, and blankets, can be added during booking or arranged at pickup. Further details are available in the section on personal kits.
- Fuel (Gasoline): Fuel required for operating the vehicle and generator is not included in the rental price. The vehicle is usually provided with a full tank and must be returned with a full tank, or additional charges will apply.
- One-Way Fees: If booking a one-way rental (pickup and drop-off at different locations), a one-way fee will apply and must be paid at the rental location during pickup.
These additional services are available based on your needs and travel plans.
One-way rentals, where the motorhome is returned to a location different from where it was picked up, are available upon request and subject to approval by Cruise America. A one-way fee applies, determined by the distance between the pickup and drop-off locations. This fee is payable at the time of vehicle pickup and is subject to local sales tax.
One-Way Fees: Depending on the distance, fees range between $200 and $600.
The one-way fee will be displayed in your quote as an additional fee payable on-site.
Important Note:
One-way rentals are often more difficult to confirm and result in higher overall costs due to the one-way fee. Whenever possible, we recommend booking round trips, where you return the vehicle to the same location where you picked it up. This can help you avoid additional costs and simplify the booking process.
Available Options:
- 100-mile packages and 500-mile packages can be tailored to your estimated travel distance.
- Unlimited mileage package for unlimited driving during the entire rental period.
Important:
All mileage packages or the unlimited mileage option must be booked in advance. Booking mileage packages or the unlimited mileage option on the day of pickup is not possible.
Excess Mileage:
If you drive more miles than you booked in advance, an overage fee of $0.39 per additional mile will apply. These charges will be calculated at the time of vehicle return and must be paid on-site, including applicable sales tax.
No Refunds for Unused Miles:
Please note that there is no refund for unused miles. If you book more miles than you ultimately drive, the unused miles will not be refunded. Therefore, we recommend carefully selecting your mileage packages based on your travel plans.
If you specify the required mileage during your booking request, our price comparison tool will automatically include the necessary mileage packages. For more details, please refer to your quote.
The following changes will trigger a price recalculation:
- Changes to the travel period or departure date
- Changes to the vehicle model
- Changes to the pickup or drop-off location
Minor adjustments, such as the number of travelers or adding extras (e.g., mileage packages or equipment), do not affect the price.
Round Trip Rental:
For round trip rentals, the motorhome is picked up and returned to the same location.
- 46 days or more before departure: No costs.
- 16 to 45 days before departure: 450 EUR.
- 8 to 15 days before departure: 700 EUR.
- 1 to 7 days before departure: 900 EUR.
- On the day of departure or "No-Show": Full rental cost.
One-Way Rental:
For one-way rentals, the motorhome is picked up at a different location than where it is returned.
- 61 days or more before departure: No costs.
- 46 to 60 days before departure: 450 EUR.
- 16 to 45 days before departure: 850 EUR.
- 8 to 15 days before departure: 1,350 EUR.
- 1 to 7 days before departure: 1,750 EUR.
- On the day of departure or "No-Show": Full rental cost.
Important Note:
A "No-Show" occurs if the renter fails to appear on the day of departure or refuses the vehicle at pickup.
The minimum rental duration for all motorhome bookings is 7 nights. This policy applies regardless of the vehicle class or pickup location. During certain peak seasons, special events, or at high-demand locations, a longer minimum rental duration may be required. Please check the specific details of your quote to ensure your travel plans meet the applicable conditions.
Maximum Rental Duration
The standard maximum rental duration for bookings is 89 days. If you wish to rent for a longer period, this is possible only under special conditions. Please contact our service center to receive a customized offer.
Providing this information is mandatory as it will be included in the rental agreement and insurance coverage.
It is important to ensure that passenger data is accurate and complete to avoid any issues during the vehicle handover.
Generator usage is not included in the base rental price and is charged separately. The generator is typically used to supply power when the vehicle is not connected to an external power source.
Costs for Generator Usage:
- $8 per rental night for unlimited generator usage (can be booked in advance).
- Alternatively, $3.50 per operating hour, based on actual usage.
Important:
The charges for generator usage apply exclusively to the use of the generator.
Note:
Some of our available packages include the option for unlimited generator usage. Please check your quote to determine if this applies to your booking.
Generator and propane gas costs are subject to applicable sales tax and must be paid at the time of vehicle return.
Propane Usage
Propane is used for various systems in the motorhome, including heating, hot water, and the refrigerator. Propane usage is not included in the base rental price and is charged separately.
Billing:
The propane tank is typically full at the time of pickup. You can either refill the propane tank to its original level before returning the vehicle or pay the refill cost upon return.
Consumption:
Propane is required for operating appliances such as the heater, stove, and refrigerator.
Costs:
The cost of propane is based on the amount that needs to be refilled upon return. These costs are subject to applicable sales tax and must be paid at the time of vehicle return.
Vehicle Kits
The vehicle kit includes everything you need for the kitchen and daily use:
- Cost: $125 per vehicle
- Contents: Cookware (pots, pans), tableware (plates, bowls, cups), cutlery (knives, forks, spoons), kitchen utensils (cutting board, can opener, ladles), cleaning supplies (sponges, dish towels).
The personal kit includes everything you need for bedding and towels:
- Cost: $75 per person
- Contents: Bedding (pillows, blankets, sheets), towels (bath towel, hand towel), pillowcase.
Some of our packages already include vehicle and personal kits. Please check your quote details to determine if these items are included in your booking.
All drivers of the motorhome must be at least 21 years old and possess a valid driver’s license. International drivers from countries outside the USA and Canada may drive with a valid national driver’s license; while an international driving permit is recommended, it is not mandatory.
Additional Drivers:
Additional drivers can be added to the rental agreement at no extra cost. All additional drivers must be present in person at the time of vehicle pickup and must also present a valid driver’s license.
Important:
All drivers, including additional drivers, must be listed on the rental agreement to legally operate the vehicle. Unregistered drivers are not covered by the insurance.
At the time of motorhome pickup, a security deposit of $500 must be provided using a credit card. This deposit covers potential damages or additional costs incurred during the rental period. The deposit will be refunded upon the vehicle's return, provided no damages or extra charges apply. Cash is not accepted, and the credit card holder must be present in person.
The deposit amount will be charged to the credit card at the time of vehicle pickup. Due to currency fluctuations and fees, the refunded amount may differ slightly from the original deposit. This difference cannot be claimed back from the rental company or intermediary.
Please ensure your credit card has sufficient funds. Vehicle pickup is not possible without a valid credit card.
Special Rules for Specific Events
For certain events, an increased deposit of $1,000 is required instead of the standard $500. This applies to pickups during specific timeframes and from designated locations.
Burning Man Festival
The Burning Man Festival takes place annually in the Black Rock Desert, Nevada. The increased deposit applies to all pickups between August 21 and September 4 from the following locations:
- Las Vegas (Nevada)
- Reno (Nevada)
- San Francisco (California)
- Los Angeles (California)
- Salt Lake City (Utah)
During this event, the risk of vehicle damage is significantly higher, necessitating the increased deposit.
Coachella Festival
For the Coachella Festival in Indio, California, the increased deposit applies to pickups between April 8 and April 24 from the following locations:
- Los Angeles (California)
- San Diego (California)
- Las Vegas (Nevada)
This event attracts many visitors, and motorhomes are often heavily used, increasing the risk of damages.
Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC Las Vegas)
The EDC Las Vegas, held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, also requires the increased deposit for pickups between May 10 and May 22 from the following locations:
- Las Vegas (Nevada)
- Los Angeles (California)
- San Diego (California)
Due to the event's popularity and the intensive use of motorhomes, a higher deposit is necessary.
Important Note:
For all pickups during these periods and from the specified locations, the increased deposit of $1,000 will be blocked on the credit card. The full amount will be refunded after the vehicle is returned damage-free.
To pick up your motorhome, the following documents are required:
- Valid driver’s license for all registered drivers.
- Booking confirmation or voucher confirming your reservation details.
- Credit card for the security deposit (cash is not accepted). The cardholder must be present in person.
- ID card or passport as proof of identity.
All registered drivers must be present to show their driver’s license and sign the rental agreement. Without these documents, vehicle pickup is not possible.
Transport to/from the Rental Location
Transport to and from the rental location is not included in the rental price unless you have booked the Early Departure Option. This option provides a shuttle service to and from specific hotels near the rental station. Details about the Early Departure Option can be found in a separate section.
Pickup Appointment
The regular vehicle pickup time is from 1:00 PM onwards. It is essential to contact the rental station directly 1 to 3 days before your scheduled pickup date to confirm the exact pickup time. This ensures that the vehicle is ready upon your arrival. Pickups before 1:00 PM are only possible if the Early Departure Option is booked in advance.
Orientation
Before you take possession of the vehicle, you will receive a thorough orientation to familiarize you with the motorhome's functions. This includes instructions on using the generator, power and water systems, sanitation facilities, and other essential features.
Important Note – International Flights:
Pickup on the same day as your arrival from an international flight is not allowed. For safety reasons and to ensure you are well-rested, you must plan to stay overnight in a hotel or similar accommodation before picking up your motorhome the next day.
Vehicle Inspection:
Before departure, inspect the vehicle for any exterior or interior damage and ensure it is in proper condition. Report any issues immediately to the staff on-site.
Transfers
- Without Early Departure Option: Transport to and from the rental location is not included in standard bookings. You are responsible for arranging transportation both to the rental station and after vehicle return. No shuttle service is included in the standard offer.
- With Early Departure Option: Includes a complimentary shuttle service to and from selected hotels near the rental station. This service covers both transport to pick up the motorhome and return transport after dropping it off. Shuttle availability is limited to specific hotels, and advance contact is required to confirm eligible hotels for your location.
- Missed Shuttle Service: If the vehicle is returned later than agreed, your entitlement to the return shuttle is forfeited, and you must arrange your own transportation.
Early Departure Option
This option provides the following benefits:
- Early Pickup: Pick up the motorhome from 9:00 AM instead of the regular time of 1:00 PM, allowing you to start your journey earlier and maximize your first day.
- Complimentary Shuttle Service: Includes transport to the rental station from selected hotels and a return shuttle after vehicle drop-off. Note: Late returns void this service.
- Extended Return Time: Return the vehicle by 3:00 PM on the return day, offering added flexibility.
Cost: The Early Departure Option costs €520 and must be booked in advance. Availability depends on location and travel dates.
Vehicle Return
Return Times
- Standard Return: Vehicles must be returned between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Allow enough time for the return process, including necessary formalities.
- With Early Departure Option: Return by 3:00 PM on the scheduled return day.
Vehicle Condition
- Cleanliness: The vehicle must be returned in a clean condition. You are responsible for emptying the wastewater (grey water) tank and toilet before return. Additional cleaning or dumping fees will apply if the vehicle is returned in poor condition.
- Fuel Level: The fuel tank must be refilled to the level provided at pickup (usually full). If not, fuel will be charged at a higher rate than standard gas station prices.
- Damage Check: Upon return, the vehicle will be inspected by a staff member to ensure it is in the same condition as documented at pickup. Any damages will result in additional charges deducted from your security deposit.
Late Returns
Returning the vehicle later than the agreed time will result in significant penalties, including an additional day’s rental charge.
Transfer After Return
- Standard Bookings: Transfers after vehicle return are not included. You must arrange transportation yourself.
- Early Departure Option: If you return the vehicle on time, a complimentary shuttle service to selected hotels is included. Late returns forfeit this service.
Flight Booking Recommendation
We strongly recommend not booking flights early in the day. Allow ample time to complete the return process, clean the vehicle, empty the tanks, and wait for the final inspection to ensure a stress-free return and on-time arrival for your flight.
All rental packages include Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) provided by Cruise America / Cruise Canada, offering liability coverage up to $500,000 in the USA (or $500,000 CAD in Canada). This protects you against claims for damages or injuries caused by accidents for which you are held liable.
In addition to Cruise America’s SLI, all packages include an extended liability insurance provided by Allianz Versicherungs-AG. This coverage increases the protection to €2 million, covering claims exceeding the $500,000 USD/CAD limit. For detailed information, please refer to the insurance information sheet.
Comprehensive Insurance – VIP Insurance Coverage
The VIP Insurance Coverage provided by Cruise America offers protection for the rented motorhome itself. This insurance covers damages to the vehicle caused by accidents, vandalism, or other unexpected events.
Deductible:
- The renter is responsible for a deductible of $2,500 per incident. This means you are only liable for up to this amount per claim, and any additional costs are covered by the insurance.
- The deductible applies separately to each incident (e.g., an accident and a vandalism claim would each require a $2,500 deductible).
Conditions for Coverage:
Coverage is void if rental terms are violated, including:
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Negligent behavior or misuse of the vehicle.
- Driving on unauthorized roads or restricted areas.
- Use of the vehicle by unregistered drivers.
Exclusions:
The VIP Insurance does not cover the following:
- Intentional damage, gross negligence, or violation of rental terms.
- Driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medications.
- Driving in unauthorized areas or on restricted roads.
- Damage caused by unregistered drivers or incorrect refueling.
- Improper use of the clutch, gearshift, or handbrake.
- Neglect of vehicle maintenance (e.g., ignoring warning lights, oil levels, or tire pressure).
- Vehicle rollover without external impact, water damage, or similar incidents.
Important:
The $2,500 deductible per incident will be deducted from your security deposit or paid separately. Carefully adhere to rental conditions to avoid unnecessary costs.
Excess Refund Insurance
Standard Plus and Unlimited Plus packages include CDW Excess Refund Insurance with a total coverage of €5,500 per rental.
Requirements in Case of Damage:
- Inspect the vehicle at pickup and ensure all pre-existing damages are documented.

Coverage Conditions:
This coverage applies only to damages covered by the rental provider’s included insurance. If a claim is excluded by the rental provider’s insurance, no refund will be provided under the Excess Refund Insurance.
Additional Exclusion Information:
This policy does not provide coverage for any loss that results directly or indirectly from any of the following general exclusions if
they affect you or a person travelling in the rental vehicle with you during your scheduled rental period:
1. Any loss, condition, or event that was known, foreseeable, intended, or expected at the time of your inclusion in the insurance
contract.
2. 3. Your intentional self-harm or if you attempt or commit suicide.
The use or abuse of alcohol or drugs, or any related physical symptoms. This does not apply to drugs prescribed by a doctor and
used as prescribed.
4. 5. 6. Acts committed with the intent to cause loss.
Racing or practicing to race any motorized vehicle.
An illegal act committed, as ruled by appropriate judicial or law enforcement authorities, by you or a person travelling with you,
while in possession of the rental vehicle.
7. An epidemic or pandemic.
8. Air, water, or other pollution, or the threat of a pollutant release, including thermal, biological, and chemical pollution or
contamination.
9. Nuclear reaction, radiation, or radioactive contamination.
10. War (declared or undeclared) or acts of war.
11. Military duty.

13. Cyber risk.

This policy does not provide any coverage, benefit, or services for any activity that would violate any applicable law or regulation,
including without limitation any economic/trade sanction or embargo.
Other Insurance
The rental provider’s insurance does not include coverage for personal belongings or personal injuries within the vehicle. We recommend purchasing additional travel accident, travel health, and travel baggage insurance.
Important Note:
This summary provides only excerpts of the full insurance terms and conditions. For comprehensive details on coverage, exclusions, and limitations, please consult the full insurance description. The latest version is available upon request from our service center.
Important Note:
If a different vehicle model is provided, you may incur additional costs, such as higher fuel consumption or ferry crossing charges. These additional costs will not be reimbursed. The provision of an alternative model does not entitle the renter to cancel the booking or claim compensation.
While all vehicles offer comparable equipment, variations in vehicle design may occur. Please note that all vehicle dimensions and size specifications are approximate and based on the information available to the rental provider. Errors and transmission inaccuracies are reserved. Changes to these specifications on our website may occur without prior notice.
In addition to notifying the rental provider (within 24 hours), the renter must immediately contact the police in case of an accident. No third-party claims should be acknowledged. The police report must include the names, addresses, and license plate numbers of all parties involved, as well as witnesses. Even for minor damages, the renter is required to submit a written report to Cruise America.
Important:
Failure to promptly report the damage or incident and to give Cruise America the opportunity to resolve the issue will void any entitlement to potential compensation. In the event of an accident, insurance coverage will also be forfeited if the incident is not properly reported.
Compensation for Downtime
If the vehicle is rendered inoperable due to a mechanical defect (not caused by an accident) for more than 12 hours, you may request compensation for accommodation and transportation costs of up to $30 per person per day, with a maximum of $3,000. Compensation is contingent on the defect not being caused by the renter and the issue being properly reported.
Non-Refundable Damages for Downtime:
Certain issues or failures are not considered significant defects and do not qualify for compensation. These include:
- Problems with the radio, air conditioning, microwave, TV, or other electronic devices.
- Malfunctions of the refrigerator, water pump, shower, or toilet that do not significantly affect vehicle operability.
- Failures of the generator, cruise control, GPS, or other convenience features.
It is crucial to report any issues promptly to protect your eligibility for refunds or compensation and to ensure a smooth continuation of your trip.
Toll Fees:
Toll fees must be paid by the renter, regardless of whether they are collected manually or through an electronic toll system. Many roads in the USA and Canada use electronic toll systems (e.g., E-ZPass, FasTrak) that automatically register your passage. Cruise America will charge these fees to the renter afterwards. Additional processing fees may apply if the payments are not made directly by the renter.
Ferries:
If your route requires a ferry crossing, we strongly recommend booking in advance, especially during peak season. Because motorhomes are larger than standard vehicles, it is important to provide the correct vehicle dimensions (length, height) when making the reservation. Recommendation: To avoid problems during boarding, book your ferry for a vehicle that is larger than the model you have reserved. This ensures that a comparable or bigger replacement vehicle can also be accommodated if the booked model is not available. Any additional costs for a larger vehicle model provided to you are the renter’s responsibility. Ferry costs are not included in the rental price and must be paid directly to the ferry company.
It is advisable to book ferries as early as possible to ensure you secure a spot for your motorhome and to avoid any unforeseen delays.
Fines and Traffic Violations:
All traffic offenses, parking tickets, or fines incurred during the rental period must also be paid by the renter. If a violation is not paid by the renter directly, Cruise America will receive the invoice and subsequently bill the renter, along with a processing fee.
Most motorhomes are equipped with seat belts that can accommodate child seats. However, please note that in some motorhomes, the back seat or seating areas may only have lap belts (instead of three-point belts). Therefore, check the compatibility of your child seats with the vehicle’s seat belts when you pick up the motorhome.
Please be aware of local child safety laws, which can vary by state or province, and make sure your child seats meet the legal requirements.
For your own safety and that of your children, we recommend installing child seats carefully before departure. If you have any doubts, please ask the staff on-site for assistance.
When the motorhome is winterized, you cannot use the water supply, toilet, or shower until the vehicle is de-winterized in a frost-free environment. However, the heating and other systems in the vehicle remain fully functional.
Important Information:
• Winterizing is mandatory in areas prone to frost.
• If you are traveling to a warmer region where frost is not a concern, you can have the vehicle de-winterized by the rental company. This should be arranged in advance. Please note that a fee may be charged if the motorhome needs to be winterized again afterward.
• Any damage to the water system caused by improper use during winterization is the renter’s responsibility.
Make sure you find out in advance whether the motorhome will be winterized for your trip and what alternatives are available if you require the water system.
Alaska, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Newfoundland
Driving on all public and/or numbered roads is permitted. It is prohibited to drive on non-public roads, unpaved side roads, trails, and similar routes—often referred to as “logging roads”—as well as on any other road that could expose the vehicle to unreasonable damage or road hazards. Renters can also obtain additional information from Cruise America regarding seasonal travel restrictions. We reserve the right to restrict travel based on current road conditions.
Death Valley
In Death Valley and other desert regions, vehicles may only be operated with extreme caution during July and August. Summertime travel in these areas is at the renter’s own risk, and Cruise America accepts no responsibility for extraordinary vehicle recovery and other associated costs. Certain periods render these regions uninhabitable and potentially dangerous for drivers and passengers.
Manhattan, New York City
Due to restrictions related to vehicle height, liquefied gas, and parking, vehicles with propane gas are prohibited from entering Manhattan or traveling through underground or underwater tunnels.
Mexico
It is strictly forbidden for the renter to take Cruise America vehicles across the border from the USA into Mexico.
Important Information:
Cleanliness: The motorhome must be clean when returned, and you will be charged for any damage or extra cleaning caused by pets.
Safety Precautions: Ensure that your pet is securely accommodated while driving, and avoid leaving the animal unattended in the vehicle, especially in extreme temperatures.
Please note that you may be held liable for any damage or excessive dirt caused by your pets.
